MEDIATION

Mediation is the process where two or more disputing parties confidentially discuss the issues of their situation with the help of a trained impartial mediator and work toward a joint resolution–usually in the form of a written agreement.   The intention of the mediator is to create a safe environment to help each person to:

  • Clarify concerns;
  • Feel heard;
  • Understand the issues;
  • Hear the other person;
  • Participate in creating options;
  • Become a problem solver;
  • Find a resolution;
  • Determine specifics of a written agreement; and
  • Create feedback processes.
